LUOSKO COMMUNITY

Business & Community Partners

LUOSKO’s community work reaches beyond the rescue gates. This page brings together the schools, partners, events, outreach and public relationships that help people understand German Shepherds with more confidence and care. It shows how businesses, organisations and local communities can become part of the work around the dogs.

Our Community Work

A Presence That Reaches Beyond the Rescue

LUOSKO contributes far more than rescue. Through outreach, education, remembrance and celebration — our role in the community touches lives beyond the dogs in our care.

Memory Garden

A quiet place for remembrance within the community.

Luna's Memory Garden is part of LUOSKO's wider community work because remembrance, compassion and lifelong connection are woven through the rescue's public story.

Community & School Visits

Our team regularly visits schools, community groups and care homes across Staffordshire and the surrounding areas — introducing people to the work of the rescue, sharing knowledge about the breed and offering safe, supervised interaction with our dogs. These visits build understanding, reduce fear and create lasting connections between LUOSKO and the communities we serve.

Supported Volunteering & Placements

LUOSKO provides supported volunteering placements and structured employment opportunities in partnership with third-sector organisations. These are designed for individuals who may face barriers to traditional employment — offering structured, supportive environments where people can build confidence, develop skills and contribute meaningfully. University students on animal welfare and veterinary programmes also complete placements with us, gaining hands-on experience within a professional rescue environment.

Volunteer Recognition & Awards

Our volunteers are the backbone of everything LUOSKO achieves. Every year, we celebrate their contributions through our volunteer recognition programme — highlighting the individuals who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to the rescue's dogs. From trustees and foster carers to fundraising volunteers and kennel assistants, every role is valued and every contribution acknowledged.

Owner Support & Education

From puppy development guidance to behaviour advice and training programmes, LUOSKO supports owners at every stage of their journey with a German Shepherd. We believe that many welfare problems can be prevented through early guidance, realistic expectations and consistent support — and we provide all of that freely, without judgement. The LUOSKO K9 Academy exists alongside the Rescue to deliver this education, helping prevent the circumstances that lead dogs into rescue in the first place.

Open Days & Public Events

LUOSKO opens its doors to the public throughout the year — from open days at our Cheadle rescue centre to appearances at local shows, community fairs, markets and fundraising events across Staffordshire and the Midlands. These events are a vital part of our work: they raise funds, introduce potential adopters to the breed and remind people that we are here, in their community, every day.

Freedom Field Hire

Our secure Freedom Field provides a safe, private outdoor space for exercise and training — available for hire to the public. Whether you need a controlled environment for a reactive dog, want to practise recall in safety, or simply want guaranteed private off-lead time, Freedom Field offers peace of mind in beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands surroundings.

Community Support Campaigns & Events

From sponsored walks and collection days to the weekly lottery, online auctions and seasonal appeals — community support at LUOSKO becomes practical care. Each campaign is directed towards a specific need: veterinary care, kennel refurbishment, emergency intake support or specialist rehabilitation.
