PROFESSIONAL PLACEMENTS
Registered Charity #1188407
An Occasional Opportunity
LUOSKO does not breed, produce or supply accredited or qualified working dogs. However, we do occasionally place suitable dogs into working environments — when the right dog and the right organisation meet, and only when welfare leads.
Occasionally, during rehabilitation and assessment, an individual German Shepherd demonstrates the temperament, health, confidence and drive that make them a genuine candidate for a carefully selected professional role.
When that happens, and only when a role would genuinely benefit the dog's long-term welfare, we may explore a professional placement with an organisation we trust to steward that dog responsibly.
There is no waiting list, no catalogue of dogs and no guarantee that a suitable dog will ever coincide with a particular request. It is an occasional opportunity — for the right organisation and the right dog.
Who This Is For
Professional placements are only considered with organisations that can demonstrate genuine welfare standards, experienced handling and a structured environment capable of supporting a working German Shepherd.
Organisations with genuine welfare-led operational requirements and the experience to steward a working dog responsibly.
Professional detection teams seeking a dog with the right drive, confidence and trainability for specialist detection work.
Established search and rescue teams looking for a German Shepherd with the resilience and focus the role demands.
Accredited trainers and behaviourists who can provide the ongoing development a working placement requires.
Government and public-sector agencies with structured canine programmes and rigorous welfare standards.
Animal welfare organisations seeking a partnership placement that genuinely benefits the individual dog.
Rescue partners with the experience and infrastructure to support a German Shepherd in a specialist role.
Specialist educational organisations with structured programmes and a genuine welfare-first ethos.
Selection Process
No dog is placed because an organisation requests one. Each dog must be individually assessed, and the role must genuinely benefit their long-term welfare. These are the criteria every potential placement is measured against.
Every dog is individually assessed over an extended period by our experienced rescue and behaviour team before any placement is considered.
Full veterinary evaluation confirms the dog is physically capable of the role without compromising their long-term wellbeing.
The dog's emotional stability, confidence and recovery are observed across different environments and stressors before any role is discussed.
Where a role requires working drive, we look for natural, healthy motivation — never pressure or force. The drive must belong to the dog.
The specific role, environment and handler are evaluated against the dog's individual profile. A mismatch helps no one — least of all the dog.
A placement is only progressed if it genuinely benefits the dog's lifelong welfare. If it does not, the dog stays in our care until the right path appears.
Our Commitment
Every professional placement is welfare-led. Welfare comes before operational requirements, before organisational convenience and before any timeline.
No dog is placed simply because a role exists. A placement only progresses when it genuinely benefits the dog's long-term welfare — and if it does not, the dog stays in our care until the right path appears.
LUOSKO remains responsible for every dog we place. We expect ongoing transparency, welfare standards that match or exceed our own, and a genuine commitment to the dog's wellbeing throughout their working life and beyond.
If at any point a placement is no longer in the dog's best interest, we expect the organisation to work with us openly. The dog's welfare is the measure of whether the placement is working — not the operational outcome alone.
If your organisation has a genuine welfare-led professional role and you would like to explore whether a suitable LUOSKO dog may be available, we welcome a considered conversation. There is no guarantee of a placement — but we are always willing to listen.
